Message from our Pilot

At My Insurance Broker, community is at the centre of everything we do. It’s not just about protecting people — it’s about standing with them, serving them heart to heart.

The idea for MIB Community x Care emerged during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. As we watched shelters fill beyond capacity, seniors isolated from care, and hospitals pushed to their limits, we realized that gratitude alone wasn’t enough. We had to act!

In late 2022, we transformed that moment of reflection into a growing, annual movement rooted in empathy, action, and collective strength. What began internally now unites our team, carrier partners, and local organizations around a common goal: to care deeply and act boldly for the communities that need it most.

Thank you for standing shoulder to shoulder with us.

Our Pillars of Impact

The MIB Community x Care Project is built on empathy, purpose, and the belief that everyone deserves support when it matters most. Together with our team and carrier partners, we focus on three urgent priorities across the GTA and York Region:

Not everyone has the security of a warm bed or a safe place to call home. On any given night, over 12,000 people experience homelessness in Toronto, while an estimated 234,000 Ontarians live with housing insecurity. Shelters are running at 97% capacity, and cold-weather ER visits among the unhoused population have spiked by 68%. The need for shelter, safety, and compassionate support, especially during winter, is more urgent than ever.

When illness strikes, every minute matters. Across Ontario, patients now wait an average of 2 hours in emergency to see a doctor, and 1 in 4 admitted patients wait more than 8 hours to get a hospital bed. Pediatric care is also under pressure, with 1 in 10 children waiting over 230 days for non-emergency surgeries. Smart healthcare systems, including AI diagnostics, virtual triage, and real-time bed management, are vital to reducing these wait times and delivering faster, safer care for every stage of life.

The communities we live in today were built by generations who came before us. As they age, our seniors deserve care rooted in dignity, respect, and cultural understanding. Ontario’s senior population aged 65+ is growing by 3.5% annually. The median wait for a long-term care bed is now 130 days, but in culturally specific homes, including those serving Chinese-Canadian seniors, waits can stretch to over four years. These staggering delays make quality, culturally aligned long-term care more than a need — they make it a necessity.

Leaving your hometown behind and starting a new life in another country is never easy. As we age, memories of home and cultural roots become even more meaningful and precious. While access to quality care offers peace of mind, care that also respects a senior’s language, traditions and culture provides an even deeper sense of comfort, and can help reduce feelings of social isolation. That’s why we believe culturally specific senior care matters. It fosters dignity, familiarity, and emotional well-being at a time when it’s needed most.

Our support to the Mon Sheong Foundation is led by our Chinese division, CIS Insurance Brokers - one of Canada’s longest-standing Chinese insurance brokerages.
